ValueClick represented the largest component in eBay’s affiliate and traffic driving activities. The new network, by cutting out the largest middle man, supposedly should bring more and better possibilities for affilliates to directly earn money referring to eBay. Some 100,000 websites are currently already an eBay affiliate through third-party programs. With enabling these affiliates to deal directly with eBay, the company tries to improve the possibility for both ends to cater to each others needs. The launch of the eBay network is scheduled for April 1. The shift from a third-party network to a unique eBay platform doesn’t promise to be an easy task. But having in-house control of their own program should enable eBay to reward its affiliates more, which should also mean increased sales. After coming under pressure by some unpopular decisions like increasing seller fees, the company loads another big task on its shoulders. Only time will tell if managing their own affiliate program isn’t a load too heavy to carry, but the time to become an eBay affiliate seems to be right now.
