If you have a Youtube channel and you’re getting some views, Google will
now allow you to sell your own ads in and around your video content.
|
With this move Google allows the content creators to do their own ad selling,
and basically outsources the sales of their advertising space to the creators
of the videos. The click-to-expand overlays on the bottom of a YouTube video
and the display units on the actual video page are both available in this model.
Besides from indirectly coming into contact with new advertisers, there’s
another upside for Youtube. By being able to control the inventory around their
content, many professional content creators now can choose Youtube
as an actual distribution channel, instead of having to treat it as a place where their content gets
pirated. This will attract more high quality content, more users, and more ad
revenue.
When content creators have contacts with advertisers, they could even sell ad
inventory beyond their own video pages. Like this, content creators will become
effective resellers of Youtube advertisement space. Companies who create similar
content and would ordinarily be competitors, could now work together to share
ad revenue across their channels.
