News for Affiliates: Cookies & Anti-Spyware PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 18 September 2006
Image Cookies are one of the cornerstones of affiliate marketing. However, with the anti-spyware software packages becoming more drastic every day, affiliate marketing may change even more drastically rather sooner than later. A study has proven that more than 40% of cookies are being erased by anti-spyware software.

More than 40% is a hughe number and will force affiliate marketing players to at least partially shift their technical operations. A good solution could be to make the random tracking urls more predictable: the anti-spyware companies can add 'safe links' to their package. Cookies from these safe links are not touched then. However, with companies like CJ using random URLs this makes it harder to figure out what is good, what's bad and what's ugly.
