Do you read the testimonials and still wonder how those guys are making so much money through affiliate programs?  There really IS a trick. They know about some simple tools for promotion, and they don’t necessarily want you to have these tools.

Affiliate links are sometimes long and impossible to remember for the average internet users. So, the super-affiliates will create a simple, easy to remember domain and simply forward that domain to the actual affiliate link. This is called “domain forwarding.”

Be aware that you are not permitted to use a domain name that contains any variation of the affiliate program name in order to take advantage of domain forwarding.  However, you can use just about any other domain name that you find simple to remember, and forward from there!

A good example is my affiliate program for partstrain.com. I created a domain named www.tune-my-car.com –and then forwarded that domain to the actual affiliate link.

Through this example, you can see that the actual affiliate URL is impossible to recall at one glance. People are supposed to go to this site through a link – not to type it directly

Although I maintain the site www.tune-my-car.com – it’s actually nothing more than an easy pass through for my users to get to my affiliate page.  The process makes sense – and my choice of domain name makes sense. I pass my users on simply, and with very little time investment on my end.

Using domain forwarding enables you to have a shorter, simpler domain name that people can remember. Be sure to include a link to your pass-through domain in your newsletter!

The other advantage to using domain forwarding – is that it’s not quite so obvious to your users that you are promoting a program that earns you commission.  It may look a little more like a public service to those viewing your URL.
