You have a Blog, you have some traffic, your traffic is growing. Now what are the most important things you should know about adding Affiliate links ?

1. Advertise to your Audience

As a blog-owner, you should know your readers, and know what they might be looking for. When choosing Affiliate campaigns, keep your reader in mind rather than the product.

2. Quality works best

Choose products and companies with good reputations. Brands who have a quality sales page most of the time offer quality products too. Don’t send your readers to cheap looking pages.

3. Contextual Deep Links work Best

Just like Adsense works because the advertisements relate to the topic of your posts, affiliate campaigns that are related to something work better around and inside posts about that topic. Rather than using a general link to a store, review separate products, and link to them from your review. You’ll notice it’s worth the effort.

4. Be genuine and personal

What works best isn’t putting as many affiliate links on your blog as possible. Your readers come back to your blog every day so don’t disappoint their trust and respect for you. Only recommend things you fully believe in. Be honest about strengths of the offers, but don’t be afraid to mention weaknesses either.

People want to know what they are buying, and even if a product has limitations they will buy it if it meets their particular need.

5. Don’t bet on one horse

There are plenty of Affiliate campaigns, so don’t just work on one.

6. Positioning matters

Position your ads in the hotspots of your pages : the top of side bars, inside content and between posts and comments.

7. Track results

Some affiliate programs provide statistics so you’ll know which links are effective. Keep track of which positions, which links, which products, what wording etc. works well. The more information you get, the better you can optimise your future strategies.

8. Be Transparent

Don’t underestimate your audience by trying to fool them into clicking something. Let people know which type of link is which and what they can expect.

9. Combine Revenue Streams

Affiliate campaigns and other advertising methods aren’t mutually exclusive. Different readers respond to different approaches. Keep track of the impact of affiliate links on other revenue streams, but don’t let one stop the other.

10. Generate traffic

Traffic levels are obviously important when it comes to making money from any online activity. Work on building a readership, but also consider how to direct the traffic you have toward those pages with affiliate links.
